Ingredients:

  • Whole heads of garlic
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  1. Prepare the Garlic:
  • Peel away the outer layers of the garlic bulb skin, leaving the skins of the individual cloves intact.
  • Using a sharp knife, trim about 1/4 to 1/2 inch off the top of each garlic head, exposing the cloves.
  1. Season:
  • Place the garlic heads on a piece of aluminum foil.
  • Drizzle each head with olive oil, making sure to get oil between each clove.
  • Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  1. Wrap in Foil:
  • Wrap the garlic heads securely in the foil, creating a packet.
  1. Roast in the Oven:
  • Place the foil-wrapped garlic in the preheated oven.
  • Roast for about 30-40 minutes or until the cloves feel soft when pressed.
  1. Cool and Extract Garlic:
  • Allow the roasted garlic to cool for a few minutes before handling.
  • Once cool enough to touch, carefully open the foil packet.
  • Squeeze the bottom of each clove to extract the softened garlic.
  1. Store or Use Immediately:
  • Store any unused roasted garlic in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • Use the roasted garlic in various dishes like mashed potatoes, pasta, spreads, or on toasted bread.
  1. Enjoy:
  • The roasted garlic will have a mild, sweet flavor and a creamy texture. Enjoy it in your favorite recipes!

Tips:

  • If you have a lot of garlic heads, you can roast several at once by placing them in a baking dish and covering the dish with foil.
  • Roasting time may vary, so keep an eye on the garlic to prevent burning. The cloves should be soft and caramelized.
  • You can also add herbs like rosemary or thyme to the foil packet for added flavor.

Roasted garlic adds a wonderful depth of flavor to a variety of dishes, and it’s a fantastic addition to your culinary repertoire!
