Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 cup black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup corn kernels (fresh or canned)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup chopped lettuce
  • 1/2 cup diced red onion
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/2 cup salsa
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
  • Tortilla chips (optional, for serving)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Meat:
    • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef or turkey until browned and cooked through.
    • Drain any excess fat and add the taco seasoning mix according to the package instructions. Set aside to cool.
  2. Layering the Jars:
    • Use clean and dry quart-sized Mason jars for assembling the salad.
    • Start by adding a layer of salsa at the bottom of each jar.
    • Follow with layers of the cooked meat, cherry tomatoes, black beans, corn, lettuce, red onion, cheese, and black olives.
    • Repeat the layers until the jar is filled, leaving some space at the top.
  3. Topping and Sealing:
    • Add a dollop of sour cream on top of the last layer in each jar.
    • If using cilantro, sprinkle some on top.
    • Seal the jars tightly with lids and store them in the refrigerator.
  4. To Serve:
    • When ready to eat, shake the jar to distribute the dressing, or pour the contents into a bowl.
    • Optionally, crush some tortilla chips on top for added crunch.

This Taco Salad in a Jar is not only visually appealing but also convenient for meal prep. Just make sure to keep the jars refrigerated and consume within a few days for the best quality. Customize the ingredients according to your preferences and enjoy a delicious and portable taco salad
