Here comes a sweet, nostalgic treat straight from Michigan! 🇺🇸 🍫 Mackinac Island Fudge is rich, creamy, and indulgently smooth — just like you’d find in the charming fudge shops lining the streets of Mackinac Island.

🍫 Mackinac Island Fudge

🍽️ Servings: Makes about 2 pounds

🕒 Prep Time: 10 min | Cook Time: 15–20 min | Cool Time: 2 hours

📌 Creamy | Classic | Crowd Favorite

📝 Ingredients:

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

🔥 Directions:

  1. Prep pan:
Line an 8×8-inch pan with parchment paper or foil. Lightly butter it.
  2. Mix & heat:
In a heavy saucepan, combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, cocoa powder, and milk. Stir until smooth.
  3. Cook:
Bring mixture to a boil over medium heat. Attach a candy thermometer and cook, stirring occasionally, until it reaches 234°F (soft ball stage) — about 10–15 minutes.
  4. Add butter & vanilla:
Remove from heat. Add butter, vanilla, and a pinch of salt. Do not stir yet.
  5. Cool & beat:
Let cool for 5–10 minutes, then beat with a wooden spoon until thick, glossy, and fudgey — about 5–8 minutes.
  6. Pour & set:
Pour into prepared pan and smooth the top. Let cool at room temperature until firm — at least 2 hours.
  7. Cut & enjoy!
Slice into squares and serve or gift!

✅ Tips & Notes:

  • Don’t skip the soft ball stage — it’s key to the perfect texture.
  • Beat the mixture until it loses shine and starts to firm up before pouring.
  • Add-ins? Stir in chopped nuts, marshmallows, or a swirl of peanut butter for fun variations!

❄️ Storage:

  • Store at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
  • For longer storage, refrigerate or freeze for up to 2 months (wrap tightly).
