Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes
Servings: 4

🥩 Ingredients:

  • 1 lb flank steak (thinly sliced against the grain)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (for cooking)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger (grated)
  • 1 red bell pepper (sliced)
  • 1 green bell pepper (sliced)
  • 1 small zucchini (sliced)
  • 3-4 dried red chilies (optional for heat)

For the Hunan Sauce:

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp chili paste (like sambal oelek or similar)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup water

🍳 Directions:

  1. Marinate Beef: In a bowl, toss sliced beef with soy sauce and cornstarch. Let sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Make Sauce: Mix all sauce ingredients in a bowl and set aside.
  3. Cook Beef: Heat oil in a skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add beef in batches and stir-fry until browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. Sauté Veggies: In the same pan, add a little more oil if needed. Stir-fry garlic, ginger, peppers, zucchini, and chilies for 2–3 minutes.
  5. Combine & Cook: Add beef back in, pour in sauce, and toss everything together. Cook for another 2–3 minutes until heated through and sauce slightly thickens.
  6. Serve: Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

💡 Tips & Notes:

  • For extra heat, add more chili paste or fresh sliced chili peppers.
  • Slice beef very thinly for tender texture—freezing the steak for 20 minutes makes slicing easier.
  • Swap veggies based on what you have—broccoli or mushrooms work great too!
