Apple Crisp is a quintessential fall dessert that embodies the comforting flavors of spiced apples beneath a crispy, buttery topping. This delectable dish not only fills your home with the aroma of autumn but also provides a delightful balance of sweetness and warmth in every bite.

What is Apple Crisp
Apple Crisp is a dessert made with sliced apples that are gently spiced with cinnamon and sugar, topped with a mixture of oats, flour, butter, and additional sugar. The result is a heavenly combination of tender, baked apples and a crisp, golden topping. Apple Crisp is often served warm, either on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, making it a beloved treat during the fall season.

How to Make Apple Crisp:
Ingredients:

  • 6 cups peeled and sliced apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.
  3. In the same bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, and cold butter pieces. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to blend the ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown, and the apples are tender.
  6. Allow the Apple Crisp to cool for a few minutes before serving.

What to Serve with Apple Crisp:
Apple Crisp is delicious on its own, but it’s elevated to another level when served with:

  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Whipped cream
  • Caramel sauce
  • Chopped nuts (such as pecans or walnuts)

How to Store Leftover Apple Crisp:
If you have any leftover Apple Crisp, store it in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days. To reheat, place individual servings in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 15 minutes or until warmed through. Alternatively, you can microwave portions for a quick reheat. For longer storage, Apple Crisp can be frozen. Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil and store in a freezer-safe container for up to 2-3 months. To enjoy again, thaw in the refrigerator overnight and reheat as instructed above.
