🧄🧀 Cheese and Garlic Crack Bread
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 15–20 minutes
Total Time: ~30 minutes
Servings: 6–8
📝 Ingredients:
- 1 round or oval crusty sourdough loaf (or any firm, dense bread)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese (or a mix)
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 tsp dried)
- Optional: ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes for a little heat
- Optional: Grated Parmesan cheese for extra flavor
👩🍳 Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.
- Place the loaf on a cutting board. Use a serrated knife to cut the bread into 1-inch diamonds or squares, being careful not to cut all the way through the bottom.
- In a small bowl, mix the melted butter, garlic, parsley, and optional red pepper flakes.
- Carefully open the cuts in the bread and drizzle the garlic butter mixture deep into the cracks. Stuff shredded cheese into the crevices evenly.
- Wrap the loaf in foil and bake for 15 minutes. Unwrap and bake an additional 5–7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the top is golden and crisp.
✅ Tips:
- Best served fresh out of the oven while gooey and hot!
- Add cooked bacon, green onions, or sun-dried tomatoes for a flavor upgrade.
- Try with different cheeses like Gruyère, Monterey Jack, or Fontina.
🧊 Storage:
- Store leftovers in foil and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
- Reheat in the oven to crisp up again — microwave not recommended for texture.
