🧀 Smothered Cheesy Sour Cream Chicken

Here’s a creamy, comforting Smothered Cheesy Sour Cream Chicken recipe that’s easy to throw together and packed with rich, cheesy flavor — a perfect weeknight dinner!


🧀 Smothered Cheesy Sour Cream Chicken

Cook Time: 35–40 minutes

📝 Ingredients:

  • 4–6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • 1½ cups sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon chopped chives or parsley for garnish

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13” baking dish.
  2. Place chicken breasts in the dish in a single layer.
  3. In a bowl, mix together sour cream, cheddar cheese, Parmesan, and all seasonings.
  4. Spread the sour cream mixture evenly over the chicken.
  5. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 25–30 minutes.
  6. Remove foil, sprinkle with a little extra cheese if desired, and bake uncovered for another 10–15 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through (165°F internal temperature) and top is golden and bubbly.
  7. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve.

✅ Tips:

  • Pound thick chicken breasts to even thickness for even cooking.
  • Add cooked bacon bits or a sprinkle of crushed Ritz crackers on top for a fun twist.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or a side of green beans or broccoli.

  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat in the oven or microwave, covered, until warmed through.
