Here’s a cozy and creamy Old-Fashioned Rice Pudding recipe — just like grandma made it! Perfectly spiced and sweetened, with a rich vanilla flavor and tender rice in every spoonful.

🍚 Old-Fashioned Rice Pudding

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 40–45 minutes
Total Time: ~50 minutes
Servings: 4–6

📝 Ingredients:

  • 1 cup uncooked white rice (short or medium grain preferred)
  • 2 cups water
  • 4 cups whole milk (or 2%, for a lighter option)
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • ½ cup raisins (optional)

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring water and rice to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15–18 minutes, until rice is tender and water is absorbed.
  2. Add milk, sugar, and salt to the cooked rice. Cook uncovered over medium-low heat, stirring often, for about 20–25 minutes, until thick and creamy.
  3. Stir in vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and raisins (if using).
  4. Remove from heat and let sit for a few minutes to thicken further.
  5. Serve warm or chilled, sprinkled with a little extra cinnamon if desired.

✅ Tips:

  • Stir frequently to avoid sticking or scorching.
  • Use evaporated milk for an extra-rich version.
  • Add a pat of butter just before serving for even more creaminess.

🧊 Storage:

  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  • Add a splash of milk when reheating to loosen the texture.
