This Southern-style chicken casserole is rich, creamy, and loaded with flavor. Made with simple pantry ingredients, it’s a crowd-pleasing comfort dish that’s perfect for weeknight meals or make-ahead freezer dinners.
🛒 Ingredients (Serves 6–8)
- 3 cups cooked chicken (shredded or chopped)
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/2 cup finely chopped celery
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (plus extra for topping)
- 1 sleeve Ritz crackers (crushed)
- 4 tbsp melted butter
- Optional: chopped parsley for garnish
🔪 Directions
1️⃣ Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2️⃣ Mix the filling:
In a large bowl, combine chicken, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, mayonnaise, onion, celery, and seasonings. Stir in cheddar cheese.
3️⃣ Assemble the casserole:
Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
4️⃣ Top with crackers:
Mix crushed Ritz crackers with melted butter, then sprinkle over the top of the casserole.
5️⃣ Add more cheese (optional):
Sprinkle a little extra cheddar cheese on top for a cheesy golden crust.
